Brock Hughes Medical Center (BHMC) marked a major milestone on Saturday September 13th with its 30th Anniversary Party & Fundraiser, a Roaring Twenties-themed celebration honoring three decades of compassionate, community-centered healthcare.
The event brought together supporters, partners, and friends of the clinic to celebrate BHMC’s legacy and raise critical funds to support its mission: providing affordable, high-quality medical, pharmaceutical, and preventive health care to both uninsured and insured residents of Wythe and Bland Counties.
“We are deeply grateful for the community’s continued support,” said Stacey Linkous, Executive Director of BHMC. “This celebration wasn’t just a reflection of our past — it was a powerful step toward our future, ensuring we can continue expanding access to care for everyone who needs it.” Linkous has been the Executive Director since January 2016; being one of only three executive directors for the clinic during its 30-year history.
The evening was made unforgettable by the energy, generosity, and joy of the attendees:
- Sponsors played a key role in bringing the night to life; The Homestead was transformed into a dazzling 1920s-inspired venue.
- Guests filled the evening with laughter, celebration, and heartfelt support for BHMC’s mission.
Together, the community raised essential funds that will directly benefit patient care and programming at BHMC.
A New Era for BHMC
Over the past 30 years, BHMC has evolved from being known as the “Free Clinic” to a Hybrid/Expanded Clinic, offering comprehensive primary care services to patients — regardless of insurance status, including Medicaid, Medicare, and private/commercial plans.
This event not only celebrated BHMC’s rich history but also underscored its continued commitment to accessible, compassionate healthcare for all.
The ongoing success and impact of Brock Hughes Medical Center are made possible through the invaluable support of several key partners. Organizations such as the Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (VAFCC), the Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF), the Wythe-Bland Foundation, Rx Partnership, and generous community donors play a critical role in expanding access to care for local residents. Without their continued investment, many individuals in Wythe and Bland Counties would be unable to receive the essential healthcare and community services offered by BHMC.
During the event, Executive Director Stacey Linkous delivered remarks on behalf of the clinic, as well as Rufus Phillips, CEO of the VAFCC, and Rachel Rees, CEO of the VHCF. Both expressed their ongoing commitment to BHMC’s mission and to improving health outcomes for underserved Virginians.
On behalf of the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics and our Board of Directors and staff, congratulations to Brock Hughes Medical Center on its 30th anniversary! We salute your Board, staff, volunteers, and donors on this remarkable achievement! It is a testament to years of hard and persistent work and a deep and abiding commitment towards serving the most vulnerable individuals and families in your community. From the bottom of our hearts at the VAFCC, thank you for all the wonderful work you have done and continue to provide critical access to care for those who would otherwise go without and to make your community a healthier and more welcoming place for all! -Rufus Phillips
On behalf of the Virginia Health Care Foundation, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to Brock Hughes Medical Center on reaching this incredible 30-year milestone. Here's to thirty years of service, and to many more years of partnership as we continue working together to ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible to all. Congratulations to the entire Brock Hughes family on this incredible achievement and thank you for your unwavering commitment to our community's health and wellbeing. -Rachel Rees

The 7th Annual Jerry Hurt Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the Draper Valley Golf Club on Thursday June 26th. The tournament is named for the late Jerry Hurt who was serving as treasurer of the Brock Hughes Medical Center, at the time of his untimely death in 2018. Hurt was very passionate about his work at BHMC. He believed that a golf tournament was just what BHMC needed as a “signature” fundraiser, an event that would be recognizable to the community every year. Executive Director Stacey Linkous, along with several board members, ensured that Jerry’s vision became a reality in 2019. The Hurt Family has supported and attended the tournament since its’ inaugural year.
The 2025 tournament was a huge success thanks to 92 sponsors, 25 teams, and numerous volunteers! All proceeds go directly to BHMC to support the mission of providing low-cost, compassionate and high-quality medical, pharmaceutical and preventive health care services to the underserved of Wythe and Bland Counties. This tournament could not happen without the sponsors, teams, and volunteers in this community.
7 team prizes and 4 individual prizes were awarded, with the top prizes going to:
1st place - Wytheville Moose Lodge-Dan Biertzer, Dickie Lefler, Hubie Copenhaver, Thomas Campbell
2nd place - Team Miller-Michael Miller, Jeff Goins, Travis Chapman, Rusty Akers
3rd place - Team Moe-Moe Musser, Jerod Vipperman, Jack Hudson, Stacy Dixon
4th place - Team Cabbage Patch-Sean Viars, Brian Smith, John King
5th place - Team Jackson-Travis Jackson, Chase King, Aaron Summers, Brian Pearman
All prizes were donated.
BHMC is a nonprofit clinic, providing primary healthcare services to residents of Wythe and Bland Counties—regardless of insurance or income, and have been doing so since 1995! From check-ups to chronic care to prescription assistance, diabetes classes, medical transportation assistance, and more, we are here for our patients, and the community! Without the generous support from our donors and community partners, BHMC could not continue providing these valuable services. Teams & Sponsors can feel confident knowing that every dollar raised from the June 26th tournament stays LOCAL to support OUR Community and ensure health care is a right, not a privilege, for everyone.
Patient & Community Appreciation and Health Screenings Day!
The Patient & Community Appreciation & Health Screening event held at Brock Hughes Medical Center on August 26, 2025, was a success! Thank you to our co-host, PT Solutions. We appreciate the Wythe Bland Foundation, Senior Home Share, Mary Bennett and Jenny Buckner (Edward Jones) and others stopping by. Thank you to Gilly’s Shaved Ice for the sweet treats and to Lisa Reedy of Virginia Works for providing a resource table for anyone who attended the event.

April 18, 2023 was a very special day, a day 2 years in the making. BHMC was asked by the Wytheville Women's Club in the spring of 2021 if BHMC would like to have one of "Katie's Dreamhouses" on the property. Katie Dinger had a passion to place "blessing boxes" around Wytheville. These boxes would make food, toiletries and other necessities readily available for those in need and in turn those who wanted to contribute to these boxes could.
The Wytheville Women's Club wanted to name the BHMC blessing box "Hoppy's House", in memory of Katie's good friend Hoppy Linkous who passed in 2021. Hoppy always took care of others first and often did without. She was a genuine soul with a heart of gold who always had a smile on her face. She would not think she were worthy of having this honor, but her daughters, sisters, and her best friends know she is very deserving of this honor.
Thank You to the Wythe-Bland Foundation for supporting this community project and Thank You Danielle Tibbits and others for all of your contributions towards "Hoppy's House."
